'Run For Vaughn' Remembers Wright

Vibrant. Caring. Energetic. Empathetic. Likeable. And he had an infectious smile, which his boys inherited. He was a champion of champions, a true hero, and a friend and community role model. 

Vaughn Wright was a heck of guy and was loved – and respected – by many in the community. And even though Wright lost his battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease in November of last year, his legacy continues to shine in the Dexter community. 

The third annual “This Run’s For Vaughn” fundraiser will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, helping other families with ALS. 

“This is the third annual run and it's the first year Vaughn won't be physically present,” said organizer Kenny Pope. “He lost his battle with ALS this past November; however, his spirit and determination will live on through this run. This year, the run is dedicated to Vaughn's memory.” 

Registration for the run will begin at 9 a.m. at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) parking lot and the “race” will begin at 10 a.m. 

“This is not a race but a journey through the streets of Dexter,” said co-organizer Scott Kruse. 

Kruse and Pope said the money raised this year would benefit local families battling ALS. 

“This is not only a great way to raise awareness and money for a debilitating disease but it's a wonderful way to remember a remarkable man, Vaughn Wright,” Pope said. “The Bake Sale and 5K Run/Walk is family event full of fun and fellowship.”
